MacDonnell House, in the heart of Naracoorte, is the ideal “refresh and relax” destination for up to four couples, but also very appealing to singles and corporate guests.

It’s a self-contained Bed and Breakfast, private for one guest group at a time, whether for one guest or eight, so you don’t share with anyone you don’t know. Tariffs are based on the number of guests and the number of nights; and include full breakfast provisions.

The 1930s local stone bungalow, with 21st century interior makeover, has four bedrooms – one king-sized and three queen-sized –and three bathrooms.

It’s next to the Visitor Information Centre car park and a short walk from Naracoorte Community Playground, Lions Pioneer Park and the centre of town – you can walk along MacDonnell Street or take the Naracoorte Creek Walk.

The open kitchen/dining room seats eight at the timber table and two leather sofas – great for casual eating and chatting over meals, drinks and snacks. There’s a cooktop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, cookware, cutlery, crockery and glasses plus a plasma TV and DVD player.

The intimate sitting room has sofas and TV/DVD. The large master bathroom has a double shower, double vanity, two-person spa and WC – and has proved very popular with honeymooners. There’s also an ensuite bathroom with shower, WC and double vanity; and a smaller bathroom with shower, WC and vanity.

MacDonnell House has ducted reverse cycle air conditioning so you can adjust the heating or cooling to suit your comfort level.

The rear sunroom is fully enclosed and includes a self-contained laundry with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board; and the open front verandah faces a rose garden and the street.

MacDonnell House is on a residential street, an easy 1.5km walk from the centre of town, and has a pleasant garden of mainly native shrubs. A rear driveway leads to a double carport, providing undercover parking for two vehicles and also serving as a sheltered area for the barbecue.

The 4.5-star rated MacDonnell House is one of four properties owned and run by Naracoorte Cottages. (The others are Limestone View, Smith Street Villa and Pinkerton Hill.) Richard Peake and Judy Barton established this “people friendly” Bed and Breakfast business in 1995 and have welcomed thousands of satisfied guests from South Australia, interstate and overseas.

Naracoorte Cottages offers comfort, convenience and cleanliness with all modern amenities. The B&Bs are ideal for singles, couples, families and groups – as well as corporate guests – for one overnight stopover or a longer stay. They are private for one guest group at a time.

The houses have plasma TVs, DVD players, free local call telephones, free access to wireless broadband (BYO laptop or desktop computer) and reverse cycle air conditioning.
Bed linen, towels and toiletries are provided. Tariffs are value for money and include generous full breakfast provisions (eggs, bacon, tomatoes, fruit juice, boxed cereals, bread, jams and spreads, tea, instant coffee, coffee grounds and milk); and a complimentary 750ml bottle of wine with every booking.

Families and children are welcome (cot, high chair and change table can be provided if needed). MacDonnell House is set up mainly for adult couples and adult singles, rather than children, and does not have any single ensemble beds, however a fold-up bed for a child can be provided.

Naracoorte Cottages has a 3-night minimum at Easter, a 3-night minimum when weekends coincide with 2 public holidays and a 2-night minimum on other public holiday long weekends. Acceptance of bookings of our larger houses for small groups may be declined, depending on the availability of smaller houses and the demand at different times of year, such as peak holiday periods.

*Please note that MacDonnell House is set up with only double bedrooms (1 king bed and 3 queen beds), which is why the tariff for children is higher than at our other houses. We can provide a single fold-up bed for a child if required and the tariff may be negotiable, depending on the number of guests and the number of nights in the booking.

All tariffs include full breakfast provisions for each day of your stay (eggs, bacon, tomatoes, fruit juice, boxed cereals, bread and spreads, tea, instant coffee, coffee grounds and milk).

If you do not want breakfast provisions, please ask for a quote.

DISCOUNTS

Multi-night and family or group discounts are available. Please ask for a quote. The above discounts do not apply from Thursday to Monday nights inclusive at Easter.

CORPORATE GUESTS

Corporate rates are available for government, business and organisations with an Australian Business Number. Please ask for a quote.

Entering Naracoorte on the Riddoch Highway, turn left at the Dragon Villa Chinese Restaurant corner into MacDonnell Street.

Drive along MacDonnell Street and you will see Lions Pioneer Park on your left.

At the end of the park, turn left into Moore Street, drive up Moore Street.

At the top of the hill is Freeling Street. Turn right; and Limestone View is the second driveway on your right. There is a Naracoorte Cottages sign on the galvanised iron fence.

If you are in the town centre, drive west along Ormerod Street and over the disused railway line. With Trident Tyre Centre on your left, turn right into Moore Street and drive to the top of the hill to Freeling Street. Turn right; and Limestone View is the second driveway on your right.
